〜てさしあげる is the humble form of 〜てあげる. It says that I, or a person on my side, do something helpful for a person of higher status, such as a teacher, a customer or an elderly person. If you say it directly to that person, it can sound as if you are pushing your kindness on them, so it is mostly used when you tell another person about what you did. When you speak directly to the person, お〜します or お〜しましょうか is usually better.
§1Structure
(わたしは) + [person of higher status] に/を/の + verb て-form + さしあげる. The particle after the person depends on the main verb: 先生に本を貸してさしあげる, お客様を駅まで送ってさしあげる, 先生の荷物を持ってさしあげる. さしあげる is a Group II verb: さしあげます / さしあげません / さしあげました / さしあげて / さしあげた.

§3Common mistakes
- Saying 〜てさしあげます directly to the person of higher status. The grammar is not wrong, but it can sound as if you are telling the person 'I am doing you a favor'. ✕ 先生、荷物を持ってさしあげます → ○ 先生、荷物をお持ちします. Use the humble form お〜します when you offer help.
- Using it in the wrong direction. 〜てさしあげる is for an action that goes from my side to a person of higher status. When that person does something for me, use 〜てくださる: ✕ 先生がわたしに漢字を教えてさしあげました → ○ 先生がわたしに漢字を教えてくださいました.
- Always marking the person with に. The particle follows the main verb, just as in a sentence without さしあげる: ✕ お客様に駅まで送ってさしあげました → ○ お客様を駅まで送ってさしあげました (送る takes を for the person).
§4How it's different from similar grammar
- 〜てあげる (do something for someone)
- The direction is the same: my side does something for another person. 〜てあげる is used for friends, family and people of the same or lower status: 友だちに自転車を貸してあげました (I lent my bicycle to a friend). 〜てさしあげる lowers the speaker and is used when the receiver is of higher status: 先生に自転車を貸してさしあげました (I lent my bicycle to my teacher). Saying 先生に…貸してあげました does not show enough respect.
- お〜する/ご〜する (humble form of a verb)
- Both are humble, but the feeling is different. 〜てさしあげる clearly says 'I do this as a favor for you', so it is mainly used when you talk about the person to someone else: きのう、社長を家まで送ってさしあげました (Yesterday I took the president home). お〜する only lowers your own action and does not stress the favor, so it is safe to say directly to the person: 社長、家までお送りします (President, I will take you home).
§5How this shows up on the JLPT
In N4 grammar questions, 〜てさしあげる is one of the choices next to 〜てくださる and 〜ていただく. Check the subject and the direction: if わたし does something for a teacher or a customer, the answer is さしあげる; if the teacher does it for me, it is くださる. Questions about polite conversation may also ask what to say directly to a superior; there the natural answer is お〜します or お〜しましょうか, not 〜てさしあげます.
§6Quick check (3 questions)
1. Choose the word that fits the blank: お客様が駅の場所をご存じなかったので、わたしが地図をかいて__。
おきゃくさまがえきのばしょをごぞんじなかったので、わたしがちずをかいて__。
2. Your teacher is carrying many heavy books. You want to offer help. Which of these is suitable to say directly to the teacher?
3. Which sentence correctly says 'I took the customer to the hotel by car'?
