〜てくださいませんか

Verb て-form + くださいませんか (教えてくださいませんか). Less polite forms from くれる: 〜てくれませんか, 〜てくれますか; casual: 〜てくれない？ To ask someone not to do something: verb ない-form + でくださいませんか (止めないでくださいませんか).

• すみませんが、もう一度説明してくださいませんか。

  すみませんが、もういちどせつめいしてくださいませんか。

  Excuse me, but would you please explain it once more?

• 先生、この言葉の意味を教えてくださいませんか。

  せんせい、このことばのいみをおしえてくださいませんか。

  Teacher, would you please tell me the meaning of this word?

• 荷物が重いんですが、ちょっと持ってくれませんか。

  にもつがおもいんですが、ちょっともってくれませんか。

  My bags are heavy. Could you carry them for a moment?

• 寒いので、窓を閉めてくださいませんか。

  さむいので、まどをしめてくださいませんか。

  It's cold, so would you please close the window?

• 悪いけど、あした車で駅まで送ってくれない？

  わるいけど、あしたくるまでえきまでおくってくれない？

  Sorry to ask, but can you drive me to the station tomorrow?

• すみません、ここに車を止めないでくださいませんか。

  すみません、ここにくるまをとめないでくださいませんか。

  Excuse me, would you please not park your car here?

• 田中さん、会議の時間をリンさんに伝えてくれませんか。

  たなかさん、かいぎのじかんをリンさんにつたえてくれませんか。

  Mr. Tanaka, could you tell Ms. Linh the time of the meeting?

• ちょっとそこのペンを取ってくれますか。

  ちょっとそこのペンをとってくれますか。

  Can you pass me that pen?

• Conjugating くださる like a regular verb: ✗ 教えてくださりませんか. The ます-form of くださる is irregular, くださいます, so the request is ○ 教えてくださいませんか.
• Marking the person you ask with に, as with もらう: ✗ 先生に教えてくださいませんか (this would mean 'Please teach the teacher'). With くださる／くれる the giver is the subject, so just call the person: ○ 先生、教えてくださいませんか.
• Using 〜てくれませんか or 〜てくれない？ to a teacher, boss, or customer. These forms are friendly, so they can sound too casual there. Use 〜てくださいませんか or 〜ていただけませんか instead.

〜ていただけませんか (could you please...?)

Both are very polite and usually interchangeable: 貸してくださいませんか／貸していただけませんか. The grammar is different: くださいませんか (from くださる, 'you give') is not a potential form, but いただけませんか (from いただく, 'I receive') must be potential. So ✗ 貸していただきませんか is wrong, while 貸してくださいませんか is correct as it is. Many people feel いただけませんか is slightly more humble.

〜てください (please do)

〜てください is a polite instruction; the speaker expects the listener to do it: 3番の窓口へ行ってください (Please go to window 3). 〜てくださいませんか is a question, so the listener can refuse, and it is used when you ask a favor for yourself: 書き方を教えてくださいませんか (Would you please show me how to write it?).

In N4 grammar-form questions, look for the correct irregular form くださいませんか among wrong ones like くださりませんか, and do not confuse it with いただけませんか (potential) when the choices mix the two. In listening response questions, 〜てくれませんか／〜てくださいませんか is answered with はい、いいですよ or すみません、ちょっと……, not with はい、くださいます. The casual 〜てくれない？ appears in conversations between friends.
