お〜です
Honorific: お持ちですか / お待ちです
お〜です is a short honorific form for the action or state of a person you respect. It most often has the meaning of 〜ています: お持ちですか means 持っていますか. - Using お〜です for your own action. It is an honorific form, so it is only for the person you respect. ✕ 私はかさをお持ちです → ○ 私はかさを持っています / 持っております.
- Putting お on the て-form or on 〜ています. Use the ます-stem and then です: ✕ お持っていますか / ✕ お持ってですか → ○ お持ちですか.
- Using お with a する-verb noun made of kanji. Most of these take ご: ✕ お利用ですか → ○ ご利用ですか, ✕ お出席です → ○ ご出席です.

- お〜になる (honorific verb form)
- お〜になる is the general honorific form of a verb and can show any tense of the action itself: お荷物はご自分でお持ちになりますか (Will you carry your bags yourself?). お〜です usually shows the present state, like 〜ています: かさはお持ちですか (Do you have an umbrella with you?). お〜です is shorter, so staff in shops and hotels use it a lot.
- お〜する / ご〜する (humble: I do it for you)
- お〜する is a humble form. The speaker does the action for the respected person: お荷物をお持ちします (I will carry your bags). お〜です is honorific. The respected person does the action: パスポートはお持ちですか (Do you have your passport with you?). The two look alike, so always check who does the action.

N3 grammar-choice questions often use a shop or office scene and make you choose between お〜です (the customer's or boss's action), お〜します (your own action for them), and wrong forms like お持っています. First decide who does the action. In listening, fixed phrases such as お持ちですか, お決まりですか, お探しですか, and お呼びです come up often, so learn them as set expressions.
