〜からこそ
からこそ
Precisely because
'A からこそ B' stresses that A is the real and important reason for B: 'it is precisely because of A that B'. Sometimes A looks like a reason for the opposite (忙しいからこそ、休みが大切だ), and からこそ shows the speaker's strong opinion. It is usually used for positive or meaningful reasons, and not for simple bad reasons like oversleeping.
毎日努力したからこそ、合格できたのだ。
まいにちどりょくしたからこそ、ごうかくできたのだ。
It's precisely because I worked hard every day that I was able to pass.
Structure
Plain form + からこそ. Verb (努力したからこそ, 失敗したからこそ). い-adjective (忙しいからこそ). Negative forms also work (簡単じゃないからこそ). な-adjective + だ + からこそ (大切だからこそ). Noun + だ + からこそ (家族だからこそ). The sentence often ends with のだ / んです. At the end: 〜のは、〜からこそだ.

Common mistakes
3
- Using からこそ for a simple bad reason. It sounds strange to stress it so strongly. ✗ 寝坊したからこそ、遅刻しました → ✓ 寝坊したから、遅刻しました / 寝坊したせいで、遅刻しました.
- Forgetting だ after nouns and な-adjectives. ✗ 家族からこそ → ✓ 家族だからこそ; ✗ 大切なからこそ → ✓ 大切だからこそ. からこそ follows the same form as から.
- Putting こそ after ので. こそ can follow から, but not ので: ✗ 努力したのでこそ → ✓ 努力したからこそ.
How it's different from similar grammar
2
- から (because)
- から simply gives a reason: 好きだから、毎日練習する (I like it, so I practice every day). からこそ says that this reason, and no other, is the important one, often with strong feeling: 好きだからこそ、毎日練習できる (It's precisely because I love it that I can practice every day). から can be used for any reason; からこそ is for a reason you want to stress.
- こそ (it is X that...)
- こそ stresses a noun: 今年こそ、合格したい (This year, for sure, I want to pass). からこそ is こそ attached to a reason clause with から, so it stresses the reason: 一度失敗したからこそ、今年は合格したい (Precisely because I failed once, I want to pass this year).
How this shows up on the JLPT
In the grammar section, からこそ is often tested in sentences where the reason seems to point the other way (忙しいからこそ, 難しいからこそ) or where the speaker gives a strong opinion ending in のだ. In sentence-building questions, remember the order 〜だ+から+こそ and the ending 〜のは〜からこそだ. In reading, からこそ often marks the writer's main point.
