Structure

Verb ます-stem / い-adjective (drop い) / な-adjective + すぎる

Attaches to verbs and adjectives to express that an action or state goes to an excessive, usually undesirable, degree.

Examples

• 昨日、お酒を飲みすぎました。

  きのう、おさけをのみすぎました。

  I drank too much alcohol yesterday.

• このかばんは高すぎて買えません。

  このかばんはたかすぎてかえません。

  This bag is too expensive, so I can't buy it.
