それでも

Sentence 1 (a fact or situation)。 それでも、 Sentence 2 (something that holds in spite of it). それでも is a conjunction placed at the beginning of the second sentence, usually followed by 「、」. Both polite and plain sentences can come before and after it. The second sentence can be a statement, a question, or the speaker's intention.

• 薬を飲みました。それでも、熱が下がりません。

  くすりをのみました。それでも、ねつがさがりません。

  I took medicine. Even so, my fever will not go down.

• 何度も説明しました。それでも、わかってもらえませんでした。

  なんどもせつめいしました。それでも、わかってもらえませんでした。

  I explained it many times. Still, I could not get them to understand.

• この仕事は大変だ。それでも、やめたいと思ったことはない。

  このしごとはたいへんだ。それでも、やめたいとおもったことはない。

  This job is tough. Even so, I have never wanted to quit.

• 外は雨ですよ。それでも、出かけますか。

  The forecast said rain. Even so, we climbed the mountain.

• Confusing それでも with それで. They look alike, but それで gives an expected result and それでも gives something against expectation. ✕ 薬を飲みました。それで、まだ熱があります。 → ○ 薬を飲みました。それでも、まだ熱があります。
• Using それでも for a simple contrast between two different things. ✕ 兄は背が高いです。それでも、弟は背が低いです。 → ○ 兄は背が高いです。でも、弟は背が低いです。 それでも needs the idea 'in spite of that': the first sentence should make you expect the opposite of the second.
• Using それでも in the middle of a clause instead of 〜ても. ✕ 薬を飲んだそれでも治りません → ○ 薬を飲んでも、治りません or ○ 薬を飲みました。それでも、治りません。 それでも begins a new sentence.

〜ても (even if / even though)

〜ても joins two clauses inside one sentence and can be about something that has not happened: 雨が降っても、試合をします (Even if it rains, we will play). それでも is a conjunction that points back to a fact already stated in the previous sentence: 雨が降っています。それでも、試合をします (It is raining. Even so, we will play).

それで (and so / because of that)

The only difference in shape is も, but the meaning is opposite. それで: the natural result — たくさん歩きました。それで、足が痛いです (I walked a lot, so my feet hurt). それでも: against the natural result — たくさん歩きました。それでも、ぜんぜん疲れていません (I walked a lot. Even so, I am not tired at all).

In N4 grammar-form and text-grammar questions, それでも appears as a choice next to それで, それに and だから. Read the two sentences: if the second one is the opposite of what the first makes you expect (took medicine → still sick; slept a lot → still sleepy), choose それでも. Words like まだ and やはり in the second sentence are hints. In reading passages, それでも often introduces the writer's real point or decision, so pay attention to what follows it.
