Please Don't Hang Up on the Telephone Relay Service
電話リレーサービスは、聴覚や発話に困難がある人（きこえない人）と、きこえる人との電話を、通訳オペレータがリアルタイムにつなぐサービスです。きこえない人は手話または文字でオペレータに伝え、オペレータはそれを音声で相手に伝えます。相手の話も、オペレータが手話や文字できこえない人に伝えます。2021年7月1日に始まり、病院の予約や警察・消防への緊急通報などにも使われています。
まだ広く知られていないため、勧誘やいたずら電話と誤解され、切られることがあります。オペレータを通すので、やり取りに時間差が出る場合がありますが、いつもの電話と同じように話してください。
事前の登録が必要なのはきこえない人だけで、受ける側は登録はいらず、費用もかかりません。オペレータは話の内容をそのまま通訳するだけで、代わりに交渉したり用件を済ませたりすることはできません。

The Telephone Relay Service connects people with hearing or speech difficulties ("people who cannot hear") and hearing people by phone through an interpreter operator in real time: the caller uses sign language or text, the operator relays it by voice, and the hearing person's words are relayed back in sign language or text. It began on July 1, 2021 and is used for things like hospital bookings and emergency calls to the police or fire service. Because the service is not yet widely known, calls are sometimes mistaken for sales or prank calls and hung up on; there may be a time lag because of the operator, but talk as on any call. Only the person who cannot hear needs to register in advance, the receiver needs no registration and pays nothing, and the operator only interprets what is said and cannot negotiate or handle the business in the caller's place.
