Night junior high schools (yakan chugaku) hold classes mainly from the evening into the night, five days a week, count as regular junior high schools, and charge no tuition at public ones; students include people who could not attend school enough as children and foreign residents who did not finish junior high in Japan or in their home country, and some schools teach together with interpreters for those who need Japanese-language support. To enroll, first consult a night junior high school or the board of education of the town where you live; entry times differ by school, some admit students partway through the school year, and some offer visits or trial enrollment.
