Eruption Warnings and Alert Levels: Knowing Them Protects Your Life
火山は温泉などの恵みをもたらす一方で、噴火すると命に危険を及ぼすこともあります。
気象庁は火山を24時間体制で監視しています。命に危険を及ぼす火山現象が予想される場合などに「噴火警報」を発表し、報道機関や自治体などを通じて住民や登山者に知らせます。火山によっては、噴火警報に「噴火警戒レベル」が付けられます。これは、どの範囲まで危険か、何をしたらよいかを5段階で示すものです。
住んでいる地域に火山があるか、各市町村が作っている「火山防災マップ」で確認しましょう。火山の近くに住む人は、ふだんから危険な場所と避難場所を調べておきましょう。登山の前には、火山情報や規制の範囲を確かめて計画を立てましょう。
噴火警報は気象庁のウェブサイトやテレビ、ラジオで確認できます。自動で知らせるプッシュ型通知も、民間の事業者から提供されています。何も起きていないときから、いざという時のために準備しておきましょう。

Volcanoes bring benefits such as hot springs, but an eruption can also endanger lives. The Japan Meteorological Agency monitors volcanoes around the clock and, when life-threatening volcanic activity is expected, issues an eruption warning that reaches residents and climbers through the media and local governments; for some volcanoes it is accompanied by a five-stage volcanic alert level showing how far the danger reaches and what to do. Check your municipality's volcanic hazard map and evacuation sites in advance, check volcano information and restricted areas before climbing, and know that warnings are available on the Agency's website, TV and radio, as well as through push notifications offered by private companies.
