Since September, Cars on Neighborhood Streets Go 30 km/h at Most

Furigana

Since September 1, 2026, cars on residential streets (seikatsu dōro: neighborhood streets with no center line, etc.) may go up to 30 km/h, because more people die when hit by a car going faster than 30 km/h. If a street has a speed sign, follow the sign; on residential streets, people come first.
